Friends of the Library Annual Meeting – Tuesday, Sept. 19 at 6 p.m.
The special guest this year is local author Milt Ost. The meeting will be held first and the author’s talk will follow. Ost’s books can be checked out or put on request from at the library.
Milt Ost grew up in western North Dakota, earned degrees in Iowa, did Clinical Pastoral Training at Illinois State Hospital. He Interned at San Francisco State University, with additional service at San Quentin Prison. His entire career was spent in the Midwest, with twenty-six years in Albert Lea. While working on Tumbleweeds Burning, he traveled nearly a dozen times to Russia and Latvia while also teaching and doing mission activity there. Many dozens of people he interviewed on two continents appear in the epic stories of the books. His historical novels tell the story of five generations of the Oster family, with their pain and joy across two continents. Their story never gets old.
The FRIENDS provide many extras for the public library through the money raised by their used book sales and membership dues.
Highlights of FRIENDS contributions include funding for special performers for National Library Week and the Summer Reading Program, craft supplies for the Children’s Library, and puppets and the puppet theater enjoyed by many of the library’s youngest users. The FRIENDS also supply bookmarks for the children.
Memberships are available for sale for $5 at the Fountain Lake Book Store located on the 1st floor of City Center during hours when volunteers are present.
