Local Author Shelf

In an effort to promote and recognize the creative efforts of local authors and artists, the Albert Lea Public Library has established a Local Author Shelf for the circulation of works by individuals who are or have been residents of Freeborn County and the surrounding cities and towns.

The Albert Lea Public Library will review donated materials, but does not guarantee inclusion in the collection. Once donated, items become the property of the Albert Lea Public Library and will not be returned. Items not included will be repurposed in accordance with the Gifts and Donations section of the Albert Lea Public Library Policy Manual.

Contributions of materials to the Albert Lea Public Library’s Local Author Shelf from local authors and artists or their representatives must meet the following criteria:

  • Author or artist must live within 45 miles of Albert Lea of be a former resident of Freeborn County
  • Donated copies must be in new condition and have been published within the last three years. A completed Local Author Collection Submission Form must accompany the donation
  • Contribution to the work by the local author or artist should be more than a single chapter, editing, or an acknowledgement

The Albert Lea Public Library will apply the same inclusion and retention guidelines as stated in the general Collection Developmeny Policy for the Albert Lea Public Library. All donated materials become the property of the Albert Lea Public Library and cannot be returned to the donor. The library cannot notify you of our final decision or meet with individuals to discuss their work. If the work is added to the Library’s collection, it will appear in the public catalog within six weeks.

To donate an item by a local author, bring the item and a completed Local Author Collection Submission Form to the Albert Lea Public Library.
